Studies by ali ghasemi, PhD, have just been listed on the VALIMET, Inc. Literature webpage. Context: Additive Manufacturing.
One could say that the hype surrounding Graphene has finally faded away.
At the same time, Graphene-like or Quasi-Graphene solutions are available on the market. Ghasemi’s studies point at conditions in which combining Aluminum Alloy powders and Graphene-like materials may make sense and conditions where it does not.
Key indicator is Thermal Conductivity: in different temperature ranges it seemed to improve (150–350˚C, 0.25% Graphene) or worsen.
Room for optimization; yet, these are interesting initial studies, in our opinion.
It’s the outcome of a collaboration among McMaster University, National University of Singapore and HORIBA:
- “Influence of the graphene incorporation on nanostructure and thermal properties of the laser powder bed fusion processed AlSi12 matrix composites”
- “On the preparation and characterization of AlSi12-graphene powder for powder bed fusion additive manufacturing applications”
