Something Serious about Cerium

June 8, 2023

We’d like to address the AM Community with something serious about Cerium.

In “Strength mechanisms and tunability in Al-Ce-Mg ternary alloys enabled by additive manufacturing” (ScienceDirect) the authors utilized VALIMET’s Toll Atomization Service to produce several Al-Ce-Mg alloys for potential use in DED.

Let’s hear it from our Technology Manager, Ian McCarthy, PhD:

“This work showed the viability of this material for use in additive manufacturing. It exhibits excellent properties at elevated temperatures. The possibility to avoid heat treatment adds value to this family of alloys”.

By coincidence (oh, really?) we’re about to launch AM 8019, an Al-Ce-Fe alloy that is known to the Aerospace Industry for its high strength at high temperature.
At VALIMET, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of technology. We invite you to join forces with our Toll Atomization Service in the quest for the most suitable alloy for your AM application.

Ian and I, with our President Chris Adam will be attending AMPM2023 in Vegas on June 18-21. We’ll be glad to discuss this topic with you further.
