Thoughts and Takeaways from MILAM 2024

January 18, 2024
  1. Overused and yet necessary words like Validation, Value generation, Value chain, all relate to the Latin verb “Valere” (to be strong, robust, healthy, meaningful).
One could say that “Valere” is all that a New Industry has to demonstrate to its End Users. To some extent it’s still the case for AM, Cold Spray, 3D printing.

  2. It would be wrong to ignore the many success stories this technology has to present already. At times, negative articles on this Industry look to me like cheap shots that state the obvious. Isn’t the true but non-obvious that bring Value to the table?
One reason to be cheerful: Cold Spray reached the End Users’ confidence not just for repair & surface coating, but also for parts manufacturing. 2023 might be remembered as a watershed year for this technology, thanks to the success obtained by SPEE3D (congratulations, Chris HarrisMatt Ort and team; at VALIMET, Inc. we’re proud we could help to some extent).

  3. The Defense Strategies Institute organizes a very focused event: an abundance of End Users/Utilizers that meet Supply Chain representatives. Over a thousand attendees. Kudos Nicholas Liberato-Randall and team. There are Industry experts that lead and keep calling for collaborative activities – in this perspective, Donald G Godfrey is one of a kind, but luckily not the only one. I’d mention also the team at University of Dayton Research Institute (Jon Groenewegen, Melisa Dungan).

No doubt, where there is AM, there is fun – great reconnecting with industry peers and Customers, with special mention for my fellow Listeners James HockeyMac BrownNoah MostowJohn A. Baliotti II and Roxanne Warren (If you know, you know!)
