VALIMET powders for Additively Manufactured Rockets Propellants

Does it make sense to 3D print Solid Propellants for Rockets engines? Can you actually do that?

It’s not a new topic for the rocket engines industry. Just check the wonders X-Bow Systems Inc. is working on.

If you’re interested in publications on the matter, see VALIMET’s Literature web-page: we listed four papers by Professor Steve Son‘s team at Purdue University. Let us highlight in particular those by Trevor Fleck, now Assistant Professor at Baylor University.

The 2017 master work provides an interesting comparison between 3D printed and traditionally filled Solid Propellants.

His 2020 PhD thesis expands this topic, analyzing the tradeoffs of the AM process for this application.

We are very glad that VALIMET, Inc. Aluminum powders are used at the frontline of Research and once again clap our hands to the Team at Purdue.

This topic is so relevant that we hope it will be brought up in conversations at RAPID + TCT in June, conveniently taking place near the El Segundo CA Industry cluster.

See you there, folks…
